Integrative Therapies
About Integrative Therapies
NCWC has been a leader in Central Texas introducing integrative therapies to traditional substance abuse and mental health treatment programs. Body centered and non-traditional therapies help to facilitate our body’s innate capacity to heal and mobilize inner resources associated with the “inside job” of recovery. Yoga, acupuncture, meditation and qi gong are regular components of treatment programs and we invite your exploration of these and other integrative therapies as a powerful and effective aspect of your experience with us.
Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine
Chinese Medicine is a complete medical system that has diagnosed, treated, and prevented illness for over twenty-three centuries. The strategy of Chinese medicine is to restore balance and function. Treatment may incorporate acupuncture, herbal remedies, diet, exercise and massage. The World Health Organization (WHO) recognizes the use of acupuncture as an effective method of treating a wide range of concerns including pain management, addictive disorders, sleep disorders, weight loss, cold/flu, mood, digestive disorders, allergies and many more.
“Auricular” or ear acupuncture for addiction is a standardized treatment using the NADA five point protocol in each ear. These points help to detoxify the body, promote relaxation, reduce cravings, and increase confidence. The five point protocol is administered by professionals trained in the NADA protocol.
Full Body acupuncture and Chinese medicine is available on site through Licensed Acupuncturist, Masako Wada L.A.c. Chinese medicine can be used to treat a variety of problems and individualized treatment begins with a medical examination. Treatments include range of remedies to restore balance and health.
Yoga
The focus and discipline of Yoga promotes strength, balance and serenity. Yoga generally includes a series of postures combined with breathing exercises. Yoga embraces a wide range of disciplines whose ultimate goal is the joining of body, mind and spirit. Yoga is a regular part of treatment programs at NCWC.
Meditation
We teach a variety of meditation skills to nourish the domain of being rather than doing, and to encourage moment to moment awareness. Meditation is a way to achieve inner calm, access insight, and learn to get out of your own way. Mindfulness meditation is an important aspect of programming in our facility.
Qi Gong (“chee gong”)
Qi gong, is a type of breath and movement meditation stimulating energy and promoting healing and well-being. Qi gong exercises release your innate healing potential, often with dramatic results. Qi gong is a regular component of treatment programming and is occasionally offered in a class setting to the general public.
Chiropractic
Chiropractic health care promotes balance and function. It helps to prevent and treat aches, pains, tension, and other musculoskeletal issues. Dr. James Eifling is a Licensed Chiropractic and Nutritionist, practicing on site.
Massage Therapy
Massage enhances awareness and promotes a mind & body connection. Massage is a wonderful adjunct to psychotherapy, and a tool to help manage stress, aches and pains, and cultivate well-being. Rachel Snyder, Registered Massage Therapist, provides massages on site.
Chakra Healing
Chakras are energy centers intimately associated with our emotional, spiritual, physical, and mental functioning. The balance and flow of these energy centers can create a functional shift in our health and empower us to our greater potential. Lisa Powell-Watts LPC is a trained chakra healer with a private practice here at NCWC.
Diet and Nutrition
Nutritional counseling is another tool to help individuals achieve health and vitality. Poor diets are a national health concern contributing to a wide range of concerns including obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, and also more subtle concerns; difficulty sleeping, food cravings, reduced mental clarity, and fatigue. We can help you with purification programs (also known as detoxification) and introduce you to a more balanced approach to diet. Contact us for more information about nutritional help.
