One size does not fit all…
At NCWC, we believe in the innate ability of our clients to become more fully functioning in all areas of their life. A Wellness philosophy is a focus on function, capability, health, and personal resources. We work hard to foster an atmosphere that encourages taking personal responsibility for choices and change. We believe that you know more than you know you know and we will help you to use the wisdom of your body and mind to assist you in the process of healthy change.
Many treatment centers offer only one kind of program, and one way to think about change – a cookie cutter approach. At Northwest Counseling, we offer a range of programs, techniques and creative approaches to the problems of addiction. We integrate Western concepts of healing, 12 step principles of change with Eastern and alternative philosophies of healing into services.
Substance Abuse Treatment
Assessment and Evaluation
Do you have a drug or alcohol problem? Listen to the opinions of others with an open mind and consider the following: Have you ever felt you should cut down on your drug or alcohol use? Have people annoyed you by criticizing or commenting on your drug or alcohol use? Have you ever felt bad or guilty about your use of drugs or alcohol? Do you drink or use drugs first thing in the morning to steady your nerves, get rid of a hangover, or just to start the day? One or more “yes” answers may indicate a substance abuse disorder. For a more thorough assessment of drug and alcohol related concerns call to schedule an assessment with our treatment professionals.
Assessment is a prerequisite to all counseling and program involvement. The purpose of the assessment session is to gather as much information as possible about the presenting concern, discuss with the client the range of possible interventions, determine an appropriate plan of action, and to motivate and move the client in the direction of solutions to address the presenting concern. Assessment includes a psych-social questionnaire to assist the clinician in defining the presenting problems. In some cases, other assessment instruments may accompany the assessment to screen for specific concerns (for example, substance abuse and depression)

Aftercare
Research indicates the strongest predictor of success is the time spent in supportive therapy. Aftercare (aka Continuing Care) programming is a support service for clients who have successfully completed primary abstinence programming. Aftercare assists clients in maintaining treatment goals and providing practice, accountability, and support for those new to recovery.
- Aftercare is offered Tuesday or Thursday from 11am-12pm or 7-8pm.
- NCWC abstinence program graduates are eligible for greatly reduced rates during their first year of aftercare.

Quit Smoking: Smoking Cessation
Now is a good time to leave the pack behind. Tobacco use is a well documented killer; it is the nation’s number one source of preventable death in the United States. Cigarette smoking causes more deaths annually than from alcohol, drugs, car accidents, suicides, fires, AIDS, and homicides combined. Smoking costs the nation over $100 billion in health care and lost productivity– that’s about $398 per American each year. How much is a pack a day costing you?
The US Department of Health and Human Services reports that treatments for tobacco dependence offers smokers the greatest single opportunity to staunch the loss of life, health, and happiness caused by this chronic condition.
Among US smokers, more that 70% say they want to quit, but only about 5% who try remain smoke free for one year when they go about quitting alone. Success rates are significantly improved when quitters combine some means of support with their attempts. Research says that the best approaches to address this complex and deadly addiction include using multiple interventions over time.
Northwest Counseling’s offers a Tobacco Cessation Program that combines acupuncture, cognitive, behavioral, and ongoing support group therapies to assist clients in quitting and staying quit. Our program includes an initial 4 week phase and weekly ongoing groups to support maintained abstinence. For additional information and to register for this program contact us at 250-9355.
